If you view the above map, the black & white line along Port Chicaco Hwy indicates railroad tracks and is presumed to be the former route of The Sacramento Northern. It ran from San Francisco to Chico and was supposed to be the longest interurban in the U.S. at the time. Part of the route was a long tunnel through the hills above Montclair. The tunnel's still there, slowly collapsing and causing distress to the houses built later above it. |
